Nifty ended the day at 18,065, up 150 points or 0.84 percent, while the Sensex finished the day 463 points, or 0.76 percent, higher at 61,112.44.

Sensex and the Nifty Status on 28.04.2023

As benchmark indexes the Sensex and the Nifty ended the day nearly 1% higher on widespread buying amid mixed global cues, domestic market sentiment remained bullish.

The world markets were unstable. Despite strong gains overnight due to better-than-expected earnings from Facebook parent Meta Platforms, major Asian peers like Japan’s Nikkei and China’s Shanghai Composite Index ended over 1% higher each. However, after strong gains overnight, US stock futures edged lower. Important European markets also saw losses.

Sensex gained 560 points during intraday trading to reach 61,209.46 after beginning the day 72 points higher at 60,721.61. Nifty ended the day at 18,065, up 150 points, or 0.84 percent, while the index ultimately finished 463 points, or 0.76 percent, higher at 61,112.44.

The major contributors to the advances in the Sensex index continued to be the shares of Reliance Industries, ITC, Larsen & Toubro, SBI, and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Sensex smallcaps

The BSE Midcap index had a significant increase of 1.32 percent, while the Smallcap index increased by 0.91 percent. Mid and smallcaps outperformed the benchmarks.

The BSE Smallcap index grew by 0.91 percent, while the BSE Midcap index saw a strong gain of 1.32 percent. Benchmarks were exceeded by mid and smallcap stocks.

Investors gained 2.8 lakh crore in one session as the market capitalization of all BSE-listed companies increased from 269 lakh crore to 271.8 lakh crore.

The India VIX volatility index decreased 4.17 percent to 10.95.

On the BSE, 115 equities, including ITC, Larsen & Toubro, Nestle, DLF, Bajaj Auto, and Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company, reached their 52-week highs during intraday session.

The Nifty Bank index increased by 2.65%, while the Sensex and Nifty both increased by up to 2.5% for the week. The BSE Smallcap index increased by 2.42 percent, while the BSE Midcap index increased by 2.6%.
